Exactly what you need to prepare for your self-employed home loan application. Organised by business structure so you only gather what\'s relevant.
All Self-Employed Applicants
- 2 most recent personal tax returns + notices of assessment
- Current driver's licence or passport (ID)
- Recent council rates notice or utility bill (address proof)
- Last 3 months' personal bank statements
- Details of existing debts (loans, credit cards, HECS)
- Purchase contract (if applicable)
Sole Traders (additional)
- 2 most recent business tax returns
- Last 4 BAS statements (quarterly)
- ABN registration confirmation
- Business bank statements (3 months)
- Accountant's letter confirming ongoing trading (if requested)
Company Directors (additional)
- 2 most recent company tax returns
- Company financial statements (P&L, balance sheet)
- ATO integrated client account (company)
- ASIC company extract showing directorship
- Shareholder details and ownership structure
- Trust deed (if trust involved)
- Trust tax return (if applicable)
Contractors (additional)
- Current executed contract showing rate and duration
- Previous contract(s) showing 12+ months history
- ABN registration and GST registration
- Last 4 BAS statements
- Company tax return (if operating through Pty Ltd)
Pro Tip: Timing Matters
If your latest tax return shows lower income than the previous year, some lenders will use the lower figure. Consider timing your application — we can advise on whether to wait for stronger financials or proceed with strategic lender selection.
